The narrow-line quasar NAB 0205+024 observed with XMM-Newton
The XMM-Newton observation of the narrow-line quasar NAB 0205+024 reveals three striking differences since it was last observed in the X-rays with ASCA. Firstly, the 2–10 keV power-law is notably steeper. Secondly, a hard X-ray flare is detected, very similar to that seen in I Zw 1. Thirdly, a strong and broad emission feature is detected with the bulk of its emission redward of 6.4 keV, and ex...
متن کاملThe Uv Properties of the Narrow Line Quasar
I Zwicky 1 (I Zw 1) is the prototype narrow line quasar. Its narrow line profiles minimize blending effects and thus allow a significantly more accurate study of individual quasar emission lines. We report here the results of our study of the 1150-3250 Å emission of I Zw 1 using a high S/N (50-120) spectrum obtained with the Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS) of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). T...
متن کاملA high - velocity narrow absorption line outflow in the quasar
We report on the discovery of a high-velocity narrow absorption line outflow in the redshift 2.3 quasar J212329.46 − 005052.9. Five distinct outflow systems are detected with velocity shifts from −9710 to −14 050 km s−1 and C IV λλ1548, 1551 linewidths of FWHM ≈ 62– 164 km s−1. This outflow is remarkable for having high speeds and a degree of ionization similar to broad absorption line (BAL) fl...
متن کاملAn intense and broad FeK α line observed in the X - ray luminous quasar Q 0056 - 363 with XMM - Newton
We present an XMM-Newton observation of the radio-quiet quasar Q0056-363 (z=0.162). This is the first time that this quasar is observed in the hard X-ray range (above 2 keV). We find that Q0056-363 is a powerful X-ray quasar, with a 0.3–12 keV unabsorbed luminosity of about 1.2 × 10 45 erg s −1 with the largest part (∼ 67%) emitted below 2 keV. The spectrum reveals a large featureless soft X-ra...
متن کاملThe Z > 4 Quasar Population Observed by Chandra and Xmm-newton
The current status of our Chandra and XMM-Newton project on high-redshift (z > ∼ 4) quasars is briefly reviewed. We report the main results obtained in the last few years for the X-ray detected quasars, along with a few (≈ 10%) intriguing cases where no detection has been obtained with Chandra snapshot observations.
